About
Who Am I
First and foremost, I’m a Goth by heart. Second, I consider myself Christian or better known as gothic Christian because of my belief in Jesus Christ as the way to truth. Besides my belief, I believe in the supernatural, paranormal and spiritual warfare. First of all, I don’t judge others who are different from what I believe in because I believe in exchanging respect. Christians have been taking the rap for various reasons. That’s why I believe in being open-minded to all people of different faiths and beliefs. I strongly encourage people to seek whatever makes them happy when it comes to their spirituality. Being a Christian makes me happy. But it may not make other people happy depending on what they seek.
Second, I try to go beyond labels but here is the reason why I’m a so-called goth is because of my love for fine arts, science fiction, classic and gothic literature, gothic architecture and art, art history and general history, technology, paranormal, fantasy, vampires, dark romanticism, and realism of pain and suffering, and urban decay that surrounds us. There’s something melancholy and somber about the death, decay and horrors against humans and toward each other all around the world so naturally being a goth is in tune with what I feel and see that surrounds us because the world suffers through bondage to sin and dark forces (Ephesians 6:12). In a way being a goth (or belonging to any of the subcultures) means being your own person regardless of your gender, race, sexual orientation, nationality, disability, personal style or age, thinking outside the box, and seeing beauty in the hidden layers of our world without donning any labels. As a goth, I believe in maintaining peace within community, to express innermost artistry and intelligence, and to find hidden beauty in everything, and to create memories of a full life left behind. As a goth I can enjoy it without worrying what others perceive of me because it seemed more acceptable to be into your own thing in the 21st century and being labeled immediately by the way I dress, think or say. That aside, I’m also disabled but so are the rest of America who are disabled one way or another. I’m not afraid to show my disabled side but that also doesn’t define me as who I am. However, in spite of people who complain that alternative subculture is becoming too uniform now by its rapid growing popularity, it’s a good thing it’s spreading in various communities because it means “unity”, not “hate.”
For example, for many years goths have been getting a bad rap as evil or deviants when most of us aren’t. Some people used goth label as an excuse to act out their most deviant or abnormal behavior that comes from the heart of the person, not attire. I don’t care if more and more people are interested in exploring this subculture because it means more attention and dollars to subculture businesses, artists, musicians, and writers. I support these people trying to make these accessible to the mainstream in spite being anti-mainstream. I like the gothic style because it has artistic roots, and I consider myself an artist since I drew with pencils or charcoals with passion when I was young as five till present time. I’m aspiring writer honing my writing skills. I’d love to get published some day. My genres are science fiction, fantasy and horror interlaced with supernatural/paranormal.
My style
My tastes are varied as time goes on. Since I’m older in my early 30s, I appreciate the changing styles than when I was younger. Other than my typical business casual attire since I hold down a day job, I love to dress up with bits of whimsy. I like to dress as a goth because I have a passion for elegance, velvet, lace, frills, from mini to long skirts, skinny jeans, jackets with pointed cuffs or faux fur, corsets, crosses embroidery, Victorian and Christian jewelry, lace parasols, platforms, and tall boots. I love boots, from gothic shoes and tall platform boots to transformers. I like to wear those colors such as crimson & vivid red, black, purple, burgundy, white, silver, electric blue, and pink. I like to have fun and get creative with what I wear but on the other days I’d just wear a t-shirt and jeans. I only appreciate the beauty the clothing brings and that it brings out of myself and other people in their uniqueness. At the moment I have long black hair and I have brown eyes hidden behind my dark red (which I alternate with black) eyeglasses. My views, theories, personality, and attitude are pretty much what make me. I like to change my mind at the spur of the moment. I believe in some causes strongly. I’m not afraid of facing challenges by the fact I’m disabled. I like to be different and thrive on it.
My interests
I enjoy attending book signings, comic expo, bookstores, art galleries, museums, and hanging at the coffeehouse with my Apple Mac laptop. I enjoy reading sci fi, fantasy, classics, gothic literature, criminology, true crime, thriller, nonfiction, and fiction. I love to read. I read almost everything I can get my hands on. I enjoy vampire stories, mythology, lore, cinema, and art. I know that vampires aren’t real and vampires elicit the type of beauty and dark romanticism not found in ordinary human populace. I was drawn to vampires since I was a preteen through movies and books. “The Hunger” movie was one of the first adult vampire films I watched when I was 10 years old. After that movie, I never forgot about the glamor of the vampires. David Bowie and Susan Saradon were amazing in the movie. But I know that we shouldn’t focus on death but on everlasting life in Jesus. Too many goths celebrate decay and death when we shouldn’t and in Jesus we are dead to sin and death. We remember the darkness that surrounds us but we have light in Christ. I enjoy all kinds of art in general like Salvador Dali, Georgia O’Keefe, Maxwell Parrish, Magritte, surrealism, urban decay, scultpures, gothic architecture like cathedrals, mausoleums, cemetery art, but I especially enjoy cyber, gothic, fantasy and faerie art. Emily the Strange is one of my favorite comics because I adore cats and she reminds me of myself. I also like Skelanimals, too. I enjoy comics like Archie, X-men, Spiderman, Batman, Fathom, Wonder Woman, the Incredibles, and more. All of Pixar Studios 3D animated films. Classic Disney movies also rock. I like collecting digital and fine artwork. I like to paint, draw and do digital art. I also like incorporating gothic aesthetics in interior design and decor which I am slowly building in my place. One day, when I’m able to shell out moola for my own permanent home, I’d make it full-fledged gothic home where people can get cozy. I love gothic decorum because it makes it intriguing, mysterious and cozy at the same time plus having a great taste. I also like to work out so I can stay healthy, feel good, do more, and keep my weight stable.
My pets
I have 2 lovely Tortoiseshell cats whom I love to the death. One is what you call “Chocolate Tortie” and another one is called “Shell Tortoiseshell”. One day I’d like to possess a black cat in the future. I love black cats in general. I also like collecting anything black cats (as in collectibles, not growing the real cat family!).
